Can I create msn emoticons using my home videos?

I want to create stupid little MSN emotes using my videos..I want to know if it is possible to maybe shrink it down to size or cut the video so that it is a little emote...O.o I don;t want to use windows movie maker.

first convert the movie to a gif file and then try using a software like this http://www.sherv.net/emoticon-maker.html to make it into a little emoticon.

There are programs that allow you to make gifs such as:


Photoshop


Image Ready


Fireworks


Illustrator





%26amp; Some others, sorry m8. =/


They cost, Im not sure of any program that doesn't cost that allows you to make a gif.
