Where does MSN Live Messenger store my emoticons?
I am trying to find the .dat that msn saves my emotes in, but I cannot locate it. I have tried looking in C:\Documents and settings\my account\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger but all that is in there are folders with a "sqm" file that are 1kb in size.. I do not need the file itself, I just need to know the directory where these files are saved.

make sure your showing hidden files in the advanced view settings.
C:\Documents and Settings\%26lt; your PC username%26gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\%26lt;your messenger username%26gt;\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons
copy all *.dt2 in that folder.
save/paste the copies elsewhere on your smartcard/c drive/memory stick whatever
change the extensions by renaming the whatever.dt2 to whatever.jpg/gif/png any image extension.
those are your emoticons. good luck!

If you're not sure, then if your messenger has picture(that you and your friend choose),then you're using the new one.If you don't,then you're using the old one.
Well, if you're using the old one, then I've to be sorry that you couldn't store your own(or your friend's)emoticons although your friend is using the new version. If not, you CAN store your own emoticons.

everytime i want to create a custom emoticon, messenger resizes it to a stupid 19 x 19 px image that we can barely see! is there some sort of program or type of image that msn cannot resize?

then write a shortcut .. for example :) for a smile (so everytime you tipe :) in a conversation the smiley will appear)

anyway writing a conversation you can click on the yellow face .. and select there the icon you want by a click .. so it will appear in the conversation, but learning the shortcuts it will be faster^^

then write a shortcut .. for example :) for a smile (so everytime you tipe :) in a conversation the smiley will appear)

anyway writing a conversation you can click on the yellow face .. and select there the icon you want by a click .. so it will appear in the conversation, but learning the shortcuts it will be faster^^

I never use the( HIDDEN ) typed emoticons now,i use the emo tool bar in the instant messenger and the BANDOO tool bar above it for showing emo,s.You will find that there are certain cookies you must have for various programs to work,such as the yahoo log on and msn log on cookies.I use CCLEANER options section to control my cookie population,only keeping the ones i need.You can get the BANDOO EMO,S from BANDOO.COM but be ready to uncheck anything you dont want that comes with it,it is only designed for the latest Yahoo messenger 9 ,MSN 9 and AOL.

Why does MSN keep resizing (specifically, shrinking) the emoticons I add from my computer?
For example, when I add an emoticon from a chat with a friend, it keeps its size. Same with installed emoticon packs. BUT whenever I insert a computer from my pc, either made by me or downloaded, it keeps shrinking it, resulting to loss of quality %26amp; sharpness and to jaggy lines. Why does it keep doing this and how can i avoid it?

New computer, anyone know how to transfer MSN user added emoticons?
I have a LOT of user-added emoticons on MSN Messenger. Does anyone know of a way to transfer them from the old computer to the new one? Both are on the same network, so network transfer is possible.

ya, its a pain though...
1) Go to my comptuer. (windows + e)
2) Tools%26gt; Folder Options %26gt; Show hidden files and folders
3) Go to C:\Documents and settings\your user\Application Data\Microsoft\Msn Messenger\
4) Search that folder for .dat
5) Copy all those .dat files to a new folder somewhere on your desktop (somewhere easy to access).
6) Rename all of these to .gif.
Note: There are renaming utilities on download.com that allow you to rename multiple files at once.... I would suggest this if you have a lot of files!
7) Once you have them renamed... go into msn messenger and add new custom emoticons... and add those gif files that you just renamed.

free file transfer .you can use windows messenger as well but yahoo messenger is better dont go in any chat room while your doing the file transfer coz that will slow the transfer down

pm id 1 to id 2 ,, then click on the send file icon and send the files over from 1 pc to pc ,2

In one sentence she has about 5 to 15 emoticons that are all different. Most are letters. I'm worried that my computer may crash beacause of everything there is to load. How to I ask nicely for her to delete some or not send them to me? Thanx.

Why aren't any of my MSN emoticons showing up anymore?
It's the same computer I've been using this whole time...all the emoticons are still there, along with the codes. The recipients can all see the emoticons I send, but I can't see what I or they send. This just started yesterday? I can't even see the basic ones like :), it only shows the code. What do I do to fix this? Thanks!

You can just type in in google moving emoticons and click on the first one. It will show you loads! but then you save the nicee moving picture you want. Then on msn you click on the little smiley sace and click show all. When you have done that click the button on the right button that sa Report Abuse

Reply:On instant messenger this does sometimes happen,it just needs a good debugging,i have now downloaded BANDOO EMOTICONS, from BANDOO.COM,this is a really cracking program of winks,emo,s and texts,it gives you another little tool bar on top of the instant message window. anyway writing a conversation you can click on the yellow face .. and select there the icon you want by a click .. so it will appear in the conversation, but learning the shortcuts it will be faster^^

Why cant I see others display pictures or emoticons on MSN??
I have the new version of MSN (Beta), I can not see others display pics, and also when they send an emoticon other than the normal MSN ones I cant not see them, it comes up blank. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Why cant I see others display pictures or emoticons on MSN??
I've heard of this, its nothing but a small bug in the beta, it will be released without this bug in the final which I belive is going to be launched this friday.

I have the new version of MSN (Beta), I can not see others display pics, and also when they send an emoticon other than the normal MSN ones I cant not see them, it comes up blank. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
