hi, i have a picture of a cats face! when i add it to msn emoticons it goes VERY small so no one can see it!.. but other ppl have emoticons which appear larger! for e.g mines a quater of the size of a 5 pence peace and theres are the size of a 5 Pence peace. does any one know what i have to do to get the emoticon to appear a little larger? i have tryed increaseing the size of the image but no luck :(

click on the smileys button and click "more smileys", if the smiley you're looking for isn't already in there, there should be a button on the right to "create" a new smiley, click it and use it to open the smiley that you wanted.. once you do this the first time its automatically a smiley for you to use

Most likely it's not her laptop. She should try to uninstall MSN and then resinstall it. That usually solves this problem.

Location of MSN Emoticons Files





Go to "Windows Explorer" and search for this directory/folder "CustomEmoticons"


The files in here consist of a "map.dat" which will map all the pictures for your msn to use them





ALTERNATIVE you can find this directory under C:\Documents and settings\you user name\application data\microsoft\MSN Messenger\246...\CustomEmoticons








The picture files are "TFR***.dat"... Try renaming them to "TFR***.gif" and you will see the picture with any viewer...





So you can actually copy all the "TFR***.dat" files from a pc, rename them to "*.gif" and add them onto another pic with the "create" option under emoticons of MSN.





As for UserTile (pic on yr msn) you can rename them to *.png to view them...

I'm getting a collection and would love to remove the dupes and rubbish ones (and possibly redefine a lot of keyboard shortcuts), but its such a hassle doing it in msn.

Where are the emoticons that I use in msn messenger stored?

Strangely enough, all of the custom emoticons I have are not available when I use another account diferent from the other one I used to add the emoticon. I suppose there is a place where they are stored, soy that I can go there and "add" the emoticons in the other account, or pass them to another computer I also use. Is there such location? can I do that? or how can I have all of the emoticons I used when I sign in in another computer?

custom icons are only available for the account they were created or copied with





they have to be here

they have the extention .DAT, so rename them to .JPG





you also use a programme to save your icons and then pass them to the other account

Open an IM, select your emoticon button and then choose "show all"





You should see a box with Create, Modify, Remove, etc. Click on the the ones you don't want and hit Remove.

You have to go into your program files and go into the folder that contains MSN Messenger, I haven't done it with MSN, but done it with Yahoo Messenger when I've upgraded, cause I didn't like the sounds of the new version so I've copied my messenger folder to my desktop and then transfered my sounds archive %26amp; Icons etc.. into the folder with the new stuff, so you might be able to do something similiar

All outgoing and incoming emotions (smilies) just show up as the number/letter symbols that are assigned to them. even if i press on a msn emoticon, from the emoticon window, it becomes symbols.

Make sure that it is MSN Messenger that you are using and not the Windows Messenger. They are very similar. Also make sure that your MSN is completely up to date(they just put another update out)

Reply:I don't think you can actually use an emoticon bigger than 16x16, which is why MSN resizes it. Think about it- anything bigger than that would take up more than one line of text and bump everything down.





I could be wrong, but 10x10 or 16x16 makes SENSE.

MSN emoticons fail to appear?

I'm not exactly sure since when, or how it happened, but lately I haven't been able to see emoticons on MSN, they only come out as text. if I go to My Emoticons and use one of them it does appear in the message box but once I send it it goes back to text. I've had the latest msn for a while now, and it wasn't a problem before.

I am trying to find the .dat that msn saves my emotes in, but I cannot locate it. I have tried looking in C:\Documents and settings\my account\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger but all that is in there are folders with a "sqm" file that are 1kb in size.. I do not need the file itself, I just need to know the directory where these files are saved.

If you're not sure, then if your messenger has picture(that you and your friend choose),then you're using the new one.If you don't,then you're using the old one.


Well, if you're using the old one, then I've to be sorry that you couldn't store your own(or your friend's)emoticons although your friend is using the new version. If not, you CAN store your own emoticons.


So, if you want to find the emoticons, just click the smiley face,then you'll find your emoticons.You also can use the 'wink' if you're using the new one.

Use some gif creator, and multiply that one image, so that new gif will contain few same pictures, of course that it will not be animated, but than you can add that image as 50x50.

I never use the( HIDDEN ) typed emoticons now,i use the emo tool bar in the instant messenger and the BANDOO tool bar above it for showing emo,s.You will find that there are certain cookies you must have for various programs to work,such as the yahoo log on and msn log on cookies.I use CCLEANER options section to control my cookie population,only keeping the ones i need.You can get the BANDOO EMO,S from BANDOO.COM but be ready to uncheck anything you dont want that comes with it,it is only designed for the latest Yahoo messenger 9 ,MSN 9 and AOL.

Why does MSN keep resizing (specifically, shrinking) the emoticons I add from my computer?

For example, when I add an emoticon from a chat with a friend, it keeps its size. Same with installed emoticon packs. BUT whenever I insert a computer from my pc, either made by me or downloaded, it keeps shrinking it, resulting to loss of quality %26amp; sharpness and to jaggy lines. I have a LOT of user-added emoticons on MSN Messenger. Does anyone know of a way to transfer them from the old computer to the new one? Both are on the same network, so network transfer is possible.

ya, its a pain though...





1) Go to my comptuer. (windows + e)


2) Tools%26gt; Folder Options %26gt; Show hidden files and folders


3) Go to C:\Documents and settings\your user\Application Data\Microsoft\Msn Messenger\


4) Search that folder for .dat


5) Copy all those .dat files to a new folder somewhere on your desktop (somewhere easy to access).


6) Rename all of these to .gif.


Note: There are renaming utilities on download.com that allow you to rename multiple files at once.... I would suggest this if you have a lot of files!


7) Once you have them renamed... go into msn messenger and add new custom emoticons... and add those gif files that you just renamed.

Why aren't any of my MSN emoticons showing up anymore?

It's the same computer I've been using this whole time...all the emoticons are still there, along with the codes. The recipients can all see the emoticons I send, but I can't see what I or they send. Is there a way to save animated emoticons in MSN messenger?
theres a program that does this called icon backup.. you can find it at http://www.iconbackup.com





it allows you to browse, save, export, and backup msn messenger emoticons, avatars, backgrounds, etc..

Hey. I've jusst created another MSN account because I've swapped emails. I have all of my emoticons on my old account and none on my new account. Any ideas of how to get my emoticons onto my new account? Note: both accounts are on the same computer.

I would say send it to your friend , he/she adds them and you go on your new account and she/he would send them to you! ^____^
Reply:just an idea of wot u can do if you want to, is that you can add your new account as a friend to your old one and then type in all your emoticons into a chat screen and send to your new one and then when you sign into your new one they will be there and just right click on them and add them. you will then have them on your new account.

Why not just jump onto your new account and ask someone to show you some cool emotions they might have, then add them.

in your MSn toolbar


tools


icons


create


localize the icon on your PC


open


then write a shortcut .. for example :) for a smile (so everytime you tipe :) in a conversation the smiley will appear)

anyway writing a conversation you can click on the yellow face .. and select there the icon you want by a click .. so it will appear in the conversation, but learning the shortcuts it will be faster^^

How can I save emoticons on msn to my local drive on my pc?

right click on start then go to explore.. then go to tools then go to folder options, view, shoiw hidden folders on .. get outta tht then go to Local settings .. click on temp .. find the folder called messenger cache then open the icons with the internet then save the pic you want

I feel like being evil, and making my MSN emoticons so my friends can't steal them when I put them in the conversation... I know it's possible, cuz one of my friends has it done that way... but won't tell me how... lol...
